Overview
BlackBerry Manager displays an unknown authority error message and does not display the BlackBerry smartphone users.

Cause
Summary of Causes

  1. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator opening BlackBerry Manager does not have sufficient permissions configured for the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
  2. The remote Microsoft SQL Server in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Domain is out of free hard disk space.
  3. Named Pipes are not turned on for the Microsoft SQL Service.

Resolution
Cause
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator opening BlackBerry Manager does not have sufficient permissions configured for the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
Resolution
Assign appropriate permissions for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator. For instructions, see KB02276.

Cause 2
The remote Microsoft SQL Server in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Domain is out of free hard disk space.
Resolution
Free more hard disk space on the Microsoft SQL Server.

Cause 3
Named Pipes are not turned on for the Microsoft SQL Service.

Resolution
To turn on named pipes for Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) or Microsoft SQL Server 2000, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Start and select Run.
  2. Type SVRNETCN and click OK.
  3. Highlight Named Pipes and select the Enable button.
  4. Highlight TCP/IP and click the Enable button again.
  5. Verify Named Pipes and TCP/IP are listed in the Enabled Protocols list.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the Microsoft SQL Service to turn on the network protocols.
    To turn on named pipes for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, complete the following steps:
  1. Launch the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration, select Protocols for the Microsoft SQL Server instance.
  3. Launch the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  4. Under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration, select Protocols for the Microsoft SQL Server instance.
  5. Right click on Named Pipes and click Enable.
  6. Right click on TCP/IP and click Enable again.
  7. Restart the Microsoft SQL Server service to turn on the network protocols.
